Hello Friends Family!
This is our final week in the letter of Philippians. We began this book eight weeks ago, and for eight weeks we have been taught to think like Jesus.
For me, Philippians has often been one of those books of the Bible filled with familiar verses: Paul’s prayer of thanksgiving, his rejoicing that the gospel is being preached, the beautiful passage about Jesus humbling Himself and every knee bowing at His name, the call to do all things without complaining, the charge to shine like lights, the reminder to press on toward what lies ahead, the command to bring our anxieties to God in prayer, that God's peace will guard us, the “whatevers," and the promise that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
Those verses are still diamonds. But as we come to the end of walking through this letter together, I’m realizing how much I missed when I focused on verses without letting the whole letter shape my understanding of them. Of course, they are beautiful on their own, but they need their setting for the full impact of their beauty. I'm in awe of how much clearer God's love for us is as we behold Him through the lens of His Word.
In Philippians, we have seen a life surrendered to Christ. Paul was a person just like us, and the power of the Holy Spirit worked in and through him as he surrendered daily to the call of Christ. This is our reality too.
I want to live into this; I pray you do as well. Let’s pray for one another as we commit to thinking like Jesus.
